Who would want to - the future is now!
Fair enough, but what does going to Vista get me other than a cool look and
feel (which I found online anyways and applied to my XP Pro)? I have gotten
things in the mail and read a few things online, but nothing is really
making me say "man, I gotta get my hands on this next Windows version
because it is going to provide me xyz".

I think Microsoft would have done better to create an operating system that
was more business and programming oriented (thinking about WRKACTJOB vs.
Task Manager when I state that).

Just some random comments I guess,

Who would want to - the future is now! All we have to do is get IBM and MS
on the same page and hopefully they both can speak the same language.

On a serious note, can you buy Dell machines without Vista?

Yes, Dell still provides a choice. In fact, I just ordered a machine
earlier today that will be running XP Pro. (XP Home was also an option).
