only use WDS which adds another $3,650 to the price. That is an acceptable
price if you have 20+ developers in your shop, but for smaller shops, I
agree, it is too much to bear - especially if somebody is simply trying to
gain entry to the System i5 world!
If I'm an individual private developer, $3650 is a lousy number to
consider. I'm not saying that the sum of all the parts received
doesn't have a lot of value, but I sure don't want to look at
shelling out that much.
But from a business perspective, it seems a little harder to make a
decision. Even for a single developer shop, that's not particularly
far (in either direction depending on how good or bad the pay rate
is) from a month's salary for a developer.
I don't pay business bills, so I have no doubt that even for a
business $3650 is painful. I'm only interested in whether or not one
month's developer salary is a reasonable amount to put on the value
received. Obviously, if the competition costs only 10%, the pain is
more intense. I'm curious about the cost standing on its own.
