STRSQL is part of -ST1, though i agree that you don't really need that.
WRKSYSACT is part of -PT1, which is always useful, and the performance
monitor stuff also makes a lot of sense for debugging performance
problem.
-XW1 is iSeries Access. You're not using that?
For web based the development, you don't need many of IBMs licensed
programs (though I would vote that everyone needs -BR1, just for the
sake of headless and and fully unattended Save 21s). But the System i
loses lots of its advantages in a java/web environment...

Subject: RE: 515 and 525 user licensing
The base config of the 515 does not include any software except i5/OS.
I was strictly comparing hardware as that is what my machine cost me.
Wouldn't it be similar for a customers machine where they weren't doing
development on it but instead purchased it to host a number of web based
applications?
The PDF on your website also has -AF1, -PT1, -QU1, -WDS, -ST1 and -XW1
listed.
I just got those because they were free for ISV's (all the free IBM
software
you want at initial purchase).
To my knowledge I don't use -AF1, -JS1, -PT1, -QU1, XW1 or ST1. I
really
only use WDS which adds another $3,650 to the price. That is an
acceptable
price if you have 20+ developers in your shop, but for smaller shops, I
agree, it is too much to bear - especially if somebody is simply trying
to
gain entry to the System i5 world! Time has proved that developers sell
hardware even more than vendors do. Companies have platforms based on
developers recommendations which are inherently tied to their personal
knowledge set, which creates problems if nobody knows how to develop on
the
iSeries because it is too expensive for developers to purchase!
