Is this like the Fram commerical?

Pay me now or pay me later type deal?

It's not that easy.

The base config of the 515 does not include any software except i5/OS.

The PDF on your website also has -AF1, -PT1, -QU1, -WDS, -ST1 and -XW1
listed.

The base config of the 515 does not include either of these. Some
express config do, but not one of them includes -AF1 and -WDS. So you
would need to buy them at the full P05 price.

So you need a lot more than just $12k.

Your config totals to $35k. That's a heck a lot of money.

Similar development systems can be had in the Windows world for $5k for
the hardware, and $800 (that's eight hundred dollars) per year for the
software subscription - called Microsoft ISV Action Pack (10x Windows
Server 2003 Enterprise, Visual Studio, SQL Server, Office, you name it).

Yep, that clears it up nicely. Where did you find this information?

This is starting to pan out to a level I can equate and understand. I
purchased my 520 six months ago for around $13k with 600/30CPW, 35GB HD
(x2
but mirrored), 2GB RAM, with no user restrictions (EUE or UE).

Using this URL for the following paragraph: http://tinyurl.com/yuzdtp

Now I can get an entry level 515 for $8k with 3800/800 CPW, 70GB HD, 1GB
RAM, and 5 UE's - correct? Then IF I need web (i.e. EUE's) I can do the
$4k
add-on which brings me up to about $12k.

Comparing those two, I would need to add an additional $1k for another
stick
of memory to match my config of RAM here:
http://mowyourlawn.com/blog/linkto/systemiconfig.pdf. That would put me
at
$13K roughly for the 515.

The 515 absolutely kicks my machines butt in the CPW area and HD space;
and
being that I don't have a lot of UE needs (strictly development machine)
I
wish I would have waited 6 months to buy my System i5 ;-)

Too bad they didn't do the UE's as concurrent sign-on's vs. total count
of
profiles that exist. Really creates a mess of a situation for those
that
may have a different profile for every remote SQL access (i.e. JDBCUSER,
DOTNETODBC, ODBCQRY1, ODBCQRY1) or all the different profiles that have
been
created for any number of other programmatical purpose. On another
note,
when you install PHP it creates/uses two profiles: ZENDADMIN and
ZENDTECH,
so I guess PHP just cost me $500? (2 users at $250 as per Pete Heldgrens
email)

Curious, does anybody know what the penalty is if these standards (i.e.
EUE)
are not abided by?

No the 520 is priced as it always has been, no change to user based
there.

Let me see if I can clear some fog on this user based thing.

There are three types of users:

1) Regular users. /No matter how they connect /these users count against
licensed users. This includes employees and contractors but not
customers,
partners etc.

Regular users count against entitled users. Period.

2) External users. Such as customers, partners etc. These users are
activated by purchasing a $4K 'External User Entitlement'. These are
anyone
who authenticates to a web application such as a bank customer checking
an
account, a customer placing an order.

External users do NOT count against entitled users. 'External User
Entitlement' is required if you have ANY External users.

3) 'Not a user.' Such as casual web browser users who do not identify
themselves at all who may view company information, sales literature,
etc.

'Not a user's do not require any Entitlements.

Does that help?
