I don't recall mine phoning home for the battery and it's been done
twice.  720 V5R2.  It did require a powerdown for the swap.  Last time,
I think there was a PTF needed to ensure the cache flushed OK.  Don't
recall the specifics.

It calls and complains when a drive is going bad, why not the batery ?
