Hi Pat thanks for the feedback, those were the kind of things I had wondered about. Regards Evan Harris At 03:29 p.m. 20/12/2006, you wrote:
Evan, I like the SAVSTG/RSTSTG option. A couple of things to note. You mentioned that you are at V5R3. Ensure that PTF MF34142 is applied to your system prior to performing the SAVSTG. Clean the tape drive before you perform the SAVSTG, and use new, (or relatively new) tapes to try and help minimize the chance of having a media error. Also each tape that you use MSUT have a Volume ID os SAVEDS. (If you use more than one tape, ensure that they ALL have a volume ID of SAVEDS). Otherwise, it works fine at V5R3, (and other releases). I like it because you do not have to worry about any of the other save/restore gotchas, such aas cross-library logical dependancies, journaling issues, spool files. One thing to note, while you can perform a RSTSTG onto larger capacity drives, (e.g., 35GB to 70GB in your case), it will only restore onto the same number of drives. If you have more drives in your new system than old, any additional drives will remain unconfigured. Regards Pat
