iSCSI is a good replacement for IxA, but the IxS still has advantages as
long as you can live with the limited processing power of a PentiumM.
For instance:

- The IxS has no maintenance costs (it is covered by the tower/CEC it's
installed in).
- There's no footprint in the rack.
- If doing a lot of comm to the iSeries it can talk over VLAN which will
outperform Gb Ethernet.
- It uses very little power and puts out very little heat.

And...

Both are being replaced with iSCSI which makes the cabling a non-issue
since it uses standard ethernet LAN connectivity. Plus, iSCSI is a lot
less expensive than the IXA option.

Kind regards,

IXA is basically a xSeries server that is attached to the System i
through (byzantine) cabling. The xSeries has an IXA adapter Card and a

Remote Supervisor Adapter card so that it can communicate and share
resources with the System i. IXS is a card IN the System i. Either
can run Windows or Linux.
