Peter, My point was that if MS delivers a new windows version, when people define windows we assume they mean one of the later releases. That's simply due to MS marketing efforts and it shows. Face it - when you think of windows you assume at the least XP, and soon it will mean vista. When people use AS/400, the perception is of that box that came out in 1989. Since MS is good at promoting the evolution of their product, and IBM won't do it for theirs, then we have to pick up the slack to achive the same effect. And since a lot of the i community hasn't evolved (meaning those who still choose to call it an AS/400), we are perceived by the whole (non-i) industry as legacy/proprietary and whatever the box was back in 1989.
