If IBM were to take your suggestion, and develop their own proprietary client, how well would it compete against Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Macromedia Flash, to name just three alternatives?
I don't think extremely productive applications can be built in the browser.
You're not alone in this Aaron, and I would agree that most browser based interfaces are less productive than 5250 when it comes to data entry and maintenance, but I think I could change your mind with a brief demo of a model I developed for database inquiry and maintenance, using just HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and RPG.
