All of my customers with hardware maintenance have been able to get ptf's for years. This was "always" the case. Did you see the web site notes ??? This requires a "hardware maintenance agreement". You would NOT be able to call in or use the new web based method. You would HAVE to use sndptford or the even older fax method. I have not used the fax method in a year or two and IBM could have discontinued it. I'll try to find one of the old PTF order forms. I "know" the ECS method still works. Jerry Adams wrote:
Pat,Have you actually done that? When our SWMA expired on our backup machine, even a call to IBM support resulted in a "ain't no way, José" reply. I don't think that a fax would be any different from a telephone call, but that may depend upon whom you faxed. Our BP was unable to get past this roadblock.OS/400 and i5/OS may be "part of the machine" but they are software. Albeit, in some cases anyway, software that makes the hardware run. Somewhat of a gray area in many cases.* Jerry C. PTF's are available if you are on a hardware contract. After all, OS/400 is part of the machine. The "method" of getting the PTF's is different. When you can't use Fix Centeral, you can use the old fax method and that works just fine.(for you web heads..yes a fax machine) You can also use the ECS method with hardware support. http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/eserver/support/iseries/fixes/orderfix.html Jerry Adams wrote:Strictly speaking, No. Software and Hardware maintenance are separate contracts. However, IBM is a little slow (sometimes) updating whatever it is they update to prevent this. So, as long as Fix Central allows you to download, go for it. However, one day they (IBM) will get your record updated and, when you try to download the PTF all that will happen is - nothing. No message, no bill, nada. This is the scenario that I went through, anyway. I had to call Support to see why Fix Central wasn't working. Boy, was I embarrassed when the nice lady told me "You're not on software support for that serial number."* Jerry C. No need for it but YES the PTF ordering is a pain. Check out the latest TCP group level 9 that came out on the 30th, all changes are for M5. We order all the latest groups once a month before we do our Monthly complete system backup / IPL to apply. Thank you IBM, can I have another? As Al alluded to, slipping the SLIC. I wouldn't think it to be necessary unless there's some feature you require. The PTF ordering screen does get annoying though, doesn't it? -- This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
