Would one really be dumping their phones? We have Cisco telephony. My lan cable goes from my wall into my Cisco 79xx phone. From there it goes into the back of my desktop PC. I assume the phone is some sort of DHCP client that works like a regular phone.
IFAIK, all 79xx phones are IP phones already, I know the 7960G on my desk is. So you've already "dumped" your phones and moved to an IP phone. The reference wasn't to getting rid of a physical handset, but rather that you'd need IP-capable handsets.
I don't have Vonage, but from what....
I may not be a fan of IP on i5, but I would point out that this is NOT VONAGE. We're talking a totally different beast. Sure, they're both VoIP, the IBM solution is about hosting an VoIP infrastructure, not hooking into one. That is, it would be Vonage themselves that would want to run the i5 VoIP solution, not their customers. -Walden
