We had a presentation on this at LISUG last month. As someone w/both VoIP deployed internally and working w/customers w/VoIP I've got to say I don't see ANY REASON you'd want to run your VoIP infrastructure off an iSeries. Sorry, but I just don't see a reason (other than, because I can). Integrate w/VoIP, sure, like CallPath/400, but have the iSeries as the core of your VoIP system, why?
because if the VoIP software costs $60K then it might make sense to run it on the server that is easiest to manage. $60K + $10K for the 700 CPW of i5 = $70K. Compared to $60K + $3K for an xSeries. Rousseaux said you need a backup server to make sure your telephone system never goes down, so two i5 systems at $15K each might be a bit much compared to two xSeries at $3K each. -Steve
