No, when they dial in at the LIC level. I never can remember the name of the function, maybe Larry can help with this. I just know I hit a problem with another client where we had to take out a 2793 (9793) to the client so IBM could get in to diagnose a problem. At that time IBM informed me that only the dial cards were supported. That may have changed with V5R4 but I haven't heard anything about it. I'm pretty sure i've used that over VPN since we've unhooked out modem lines from the iSeries boxes. Not 100% sure, but pretty sure... ;) "Kendall Kinnear" <Kendall.Kinnear@ SBTI.com> To Sent by: "Midrange Systems Technical midrange-l-bounce Discussion" s@xxxxxxxxxxxx <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> cc 05/30/2006 10:07 Subject AM RE: 520+ and required cards Please respond to Midrange Systems Technical Discussion <midrange-l@midra nge.com> Last I knew, the 9771, 9493, etc was the only way IBM could dial into the system to look at problems. That support doesn't work through the VPN. I have a question about the 9793 (2 Line WAN) and 4746 (Twinax) cards... they are included in the base configs, but I have no need to use these cards. When I run a config in the LVT without the 9793 it keeps telling me "The base Tower must contain either a 9771, 9493, 9494, or 9794 WAN IOA". I can get everything I need in the main CEC when I spec the machine without either a 4746 twinax card or a 9793 2 Line WAN card. I don't need a 9793 present to actually run the machine do I? I'll be using a VPN connection for ECS, etc. and have no need for serial or dialup connections on this box. -- This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
