If they don't need the system in a restricted state, then it doesn't have to be a system console. Frankly I don't find the HMC that hard to use. However, I do have programmers that I can start all 5250 sessions needed for the lpars involved and they can still muck it up so obviously, yes, some programmers will have issues with it. Generally these are the ones who still use SEU and have never coded a subprocedure in RPG. If they do need it in a restricted state, and they are not fearful of simple iSeries Access 5250 sessions, then there is a neat thing you can do with the HMC. You can configure it, and iSeries access to take control of the 5250 session so therefore they never have to touch the HMC. I do this so that I can take control of a hmc controlled system console from my home. Although I did have to whomp on the one programmer who killed the 5250 session on the hmc and restarted it as 'dedicated' instead of 'shared' and thus forced me to drive in because they had a hard time interpreting a job log.
