If you use virtual tape improperly, you could execute the WASTE DISK SPACE
command. Also, on my little system, I am getting worse performance using
Virtual Tape than to an ULTRIUM2 tape drive. If was suggested that we put
the image catalogue in an IASP to get better performance. Also I was
getting terrible performance going from the virtual tape to the ULTRIUM2
tape drive, but there's a PTF to fix that.

True. And it's great. But how do you get the virtual tape stuff to the
remote system? Use CPY to copy it from the system it was saved on to the
remote system via '/QFileSvr.400'? Because you cannot specify
QFileSvr.400 directly in a SAV command. Or, save the virtual tape
directory to a save file and then ftp or something that save file over to
the remote system? The problem with the save file method is then you
waste twice the disk space:
Once for the virtual tape area
Twice for the save file.

That's why Virtual Tape support was added to V5R4, to get around that
problem.

Just tried it and it was pretty adamant about only one library per save
file.

Out of curiosity, what happens to the save files after they are created?

I create save files of all of our production libraries every night and
push them to our backup i5 where they are both stored until the next
night, and backed up to tape.
