I just got done with a year-long project to convert a client to CGC, and have these comments: CGC had a perfectly good GUI version that was built with the newlook product from look software, then IBM "convinced" them that they should reintroduce the system built with the IBM tools. This is from a CGC employee. Because of the limitations of the Webfacing tool, CGC's current version does not have the capability for the user to use a field exit key. The user must reach for the tab key while doing heavy data entry like timesheets. Picture that scene on Monday mornings when the time keepers are entering last week's labor and equipment hours. We've already discussed writing green screen code for that data entry function. With the next version (now in beta), CGC's customers will no longer have green screens available. The browser server software for some reason will not run on a Linux box. (I'm just the messenger). It really doesn't matter which server is available on the iSeries. Most of the CGC clients are smaller shops, and will have to increase their CPW capacity (replace their current machines) in order to run future versions. CGC is cutting back their canned reports in favor of making the clients buy the Business Objects software. Again, that means more CPW capacity, since BO runs over an ODBC connection. CGC sells hardware.
