CGC has a web-faced solution, and has in fact had a series of "road-shows" with IBM to push the WebFacing product and process. WebFacing was CGC's way to make their product available to a much wider audience. If I remember correctly they even offer hosting. The road show was in fact quite informative. One factoid I remember was the idea that browser and green screen could co-exist and be essentially interchangeable. I don't remember if CGC's product plan included moving away from the green screen. If they are sticking with the web-facing, then the green screen should stay available, albeit with reduced functionality. However, I think we can reasonably conclude that IBM's plans include moving away from the green screen, so having an option seems attractive. I wouldn't consider the availability of both a negative, but rather a huge positive. > Oh, and if you don't have a big honking machine, you need to > put a Wintel server in between the iSeries and the user to run the browser > software. WebFacing requires WAS or Tomcat as the application server. Either can be run on the iSeries, or Tomcat can be on another box. I don't know if WAS Express is sufficient, but Tomcat on the iSeries is included with the Apache web server and from my understanding is not hard to get working and isn't nearly as greedy for resources as WAS. I am pretty sure that Tomcat on Linux will fill the fill as well. -- Tom Jedrzejewicz tomjedrz@xxxxxxxxx
