Dan, You can give the LF a different record format name then the PFILE it is based upon. You can not use the FORMAT key word, however. You have to name each field in the LF again, that should be accessed with the LF. One advantage: if you use all the fields of the PF in that LF and later the PF gets expanded with extra fields, not to be used with that LF, you do not have to recompile the PGMs using that LF.
