I have been having problems w/ a remote printer, that actually goes through
a third party warehouse. The spool will stay in "SND" status. I tell the
manager there to reset everything then I END the writer, restart. Often
nothing happens, but then I remember to see if I can PING, and then it
prints again. Does the PING so something?

-----

The ping might take it out of standby mode. Some printers are very fickle
about waking up.

FWIW, we had one printer that exhibited this same problem, and switching
from port 9100 to 9600 in the CFG solved it. (CFG object on the '400,
printer did't changed)

Maybe irrelevant in your case though.
