You can use SQL to create the table entirely and RPG will work fine.

With the IDENTITY column the only thing to keep in mind is you need it to be 
GENERATE ALWAYS.  Since RPG writes the entire record buffer out.

In fact, I just took a previously DDS describe file and replaced it with an SQL 
defined file with an add-on of an IDENTITY column.  Mo modifications to our RPG 
programs were required.
