Good points there Jim. Blocking attachments by extension seems to be real popular. We block all .exe files except for a very select few (I think the only exception is our mail clerk who gets something from UPS or some such thing. Not even systems is excepted.) Since packing a virus in an EXE inside of a ZIP is how many people work around that issue it's popular to block ZIP files also. Although Trend Micro can scan the zip file for virus and also block based on the file names within the zip if you want. Some customers object because email is faster than snail mail and they might actually pay faster based on the email out of habit and that would kill their "float". That and the office union that keeps the guy employed who scans in the snail mail and stores it into the document retention system might object. Just kidding on both accounts. Some people really object? We email paystubs, it's not optional. No complaints in a year, except we strongly recommend users change the Adobe defaults to always open a pdf in a new window (current default in Adobe is to open in the browser, which causes a huge amount of problems). We will start sending originals via email soon, but only to customers who agree. We have already had some customers threaten to go elsewhere if we inconvenience them, forcing them to print their own. Some of the statements can be over 100 pages, and some ISP's may block that size file. Zip it and some customers won't know how to handle.. And self extracting does not work on "all" pc's due to Windows differences and AOL users seem to always be "different". Also, some customer's network email server may auto block attachments unless you meet certain criteria. jim ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carl Galgano" <cgalgano2@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: "'Midrange Systems Technical Discussion'" <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, April 14, 2005 11:12 AM Subject: RE: Emailing statements and invoices > PDF is the only way to go. > A Word doc can be modified, so you don't want to send an invoice that can be > modified. > Are you looking for something that can do forms overlays? > We have a commercial product if you are interested.
