PDF is the only way to go.
A Word doc can be modified, so you don't want to send an invoice that can be
modified.
Are you looking for something that can do forms overlays?
We have a commercial product if you are interested.  Please contact me off

The issue becomes one of what format to use.  Word is not as universal as MS
would have you believe.  Of course the other issue is that most companies
will then print out the document as their systems require written
documentation.



Would it make more sense to work towards paperless billing & paying, as the
utilities are beginning to do now?

was tried in the past, and they had complaints that the customers couldn't
open the document or it was gibberish. Do you typically use a software to
