Ask for help from IBM. They can show you documentation that IBM's "version" of the Windows server software is more stable than the version that runs on Intel. At the Fall 2003 COMMON, there was a case study presented by the IT director of the company that makes Chinet plates, etc. He showed that he had consolidated over 80 servers into an iSeries/xSeries configuration, and had plans to do more. When I spoke to him later, he said that the biggest savings were in the staff area. Sorta ties right into the Laughing Boardroom commercials one can find on TUG's web site at www.tug.ca Pull them down and use them as a lead-in to your ROI presentation...... :-)) Paul Nelson Arbor Solutions, Inc. 708-670-6978 Cell pnelson@xxxxxxxxxx "Graap, Ken" <keg@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent by: midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx 03/30/2005 11:18 AM Please respond to Midrange Systems Technical Discussion To: "'Midrange'" <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> cc: Subject: xSeries and iSeries integration - ROI I'm looking into the benefits of consolidating our Windows server environment (currently about 125 servers) into an iSeries / xSeries configuration. Before anything like this would even be considered my manager would need to understand what the return on investment would be over time. Even though I see lots of wonderful technical reasons for moving in this direction I would need to prove that it also could save us money over time too. Has anyone out there prepared an ROI analysis on this subject that they might be willing to share? Also, has anyone actually planned and implemented a server consolidation using IBM iSeries and xSeries? If so I'd love to get some information from you on how you convinced your company that this was a good idea.... Kenneth **************************************** Kenneth E.
