The problem is with user name and not with password. CRTUSRPRF does not have this behavior, but WRKUSRPRF ASTLVL(*BASIC) does. That level is redefined as "Work with User Enrollment", which is an OfficeVision-looking thing. It also adds an entry to the system directory, which CRTUSRPRF does not, IIRC.

So, as I posted earlier, to avoid the problem, use CRTUSRPRF, no matter what the ASTLVL is for WRKUSRPRF, since that level does not affect the create command, only the "Work with..." screen.

  Doesn't the directory entry (WRKDIRE) have a maximum of 8 characters?
