I had never used the *BASIC level. When the assistance level feature came out in V2R1, I always used *INTERMED, because is was basically similar to what I was used to. You are correct, *BASIC only supports adding a user profile with eight characters. CRTUSRPRF does not have this behavior, but WRKUSRPRF ASTLVL(*BASIC) does. That level is redefined as "Work with User Enrollment", which is an OfficeVision-looking thing. It also adds an entry to the system directory, which CRTUSRPRF does not, IIRC. So, as I posted earlier, to avoid the problem, use CRTUSRPRF, no matter what the ASTLVL is for WRKUSRPRF, since that level does not affect the create command, only the "Work with..." screen.
