Unless IBM improves the core OS400, I dont think we will get as good results from this spending as we could.
The fact that you cant run multiple threads in an interactive job in os400 tells you there are underlying problems with the system code. as in bugs. Those "bugs" have remained for a number of releases now so the worry is that IBM management has decided OS400 is not worth the expense of a major thread safe rewrite.
Threads are important. Without them you cant implement an event driven programming model. And the popularity of Visual Basic shows how productive event driven programming can be.
