Samba is built into OS X...you can access an SMB share using smb://<ip addr>/share. Works great for a Windows server...don't have any Linux handy right now, but I know it's worked fine with Linux in the past. I know IBM came out with PTFs to allow *NIX clients access to NetServer...bet they won't for Macs. I think I'm going to try and find a third party Samba client for Macs.
