Aren't they running the automatic update feature? Start, Programs, IBM iSeries Access for Windows, iSeries Access for Windows Properties, Service tab. Now, if they didn't set that up correctly on each PC they set up - shame on them. If you don't load the latest versions of iSeries Access for Windows, and all service packs for it, in that directory on the Service tab - shame on you. I liked using an iSeries share. However I also use a Wintel share. Some users just seem to have a bear mapping to the iseries. And it's mostly our PC technicians. We've been desperately trying to get them to upgrade for 2 years, but the problem is they have seven hundred desktops managed by a different outsourcer than us, and apparently under that contract the would have to pay for the upgrade (time that is, not the software). They've also held off because they're considering different emulation tool options but haven't yet made a decision. Unfortunately they have an urgent business need to do some OS400 and AIX server consolidation, hence V5R3 must happen on the first of their systems this weekend so we can move to i5 hardware, and no one internally has really pushed the Client Access issue. I've also spoken to IBM and they (quite rightly) won't give a definitive yes or no. I'm trying to find an old copy of V4R4 to test with a V5R3 system we have here. We're going to tell them to expect problems, but I was just wondering if anyone had experienced it not connecting at all. Anyway, I guess we just test and see how it goes. It IS likely to connect yes, however if any issues arise you will be advised to 'upgrade and call us back'. The supported releases for i5/OS V5R3 are iSeries Access V5R1 through V5R3. If all the client is doing is 5250 emulation then life will likely be OK.
