Pat,

I normally only define the IPDS address, and disable the SCS address. I've never seen any need to use both addresses. The IPDS address can handle the SCS data streams. The SCS and IPDS address must be different if they are both defined. I would set the SCS address to OFF, and setup the IPDS address. This would be defined under the Twinax SCS Menu.

Then be sure to go into the IPDS Menu and choose the printer emulation you want to use.

I appreciate the comments on this.

This dual address thing was/is throwing me.

Do you use the same address for both ???

Why doesn't the printer report in as IPDS ???

All I wanted was for this printer to appear as
a 4028, which is what it's replacing...

Pat,

the IPDS and Twinax cards are optional features, and are not documented in the printer manual. Their documentation is (should be) included in the installation instructions for the features.

Suggestions- Have the customer print the configuration page, and send it to you. You should be able to talk the user through the configuration from the configuration page. The sections on the configuration correspond to the configuration menu.

Addressing- The Twinax card in my printer has both an IPDS address and an SCS address setting. They are both set under the Twinax Setup menu. This card can actually be defined as two printers, one twinax and one SCS. Remember - the IPDS setup can handle IPDS, AFP, and SCS datastreams, the SCS device can only handle SCS data streams.

You could also set up the IPDS card to receive it's data from the Twinax or Ethernet input, but this is an either/or setup. The printer won't automatically switch between these data sources.

Yes... it has a twinax adapter and a IPDS card...

I guess my question is "why" is there two places to
store an address ???

The only way I can get it to work is enter a valid address
in the SCS menu. We tried the IPDS side and that didn't get
us anywhere. The manual makes no mention of this or very little
else.

Does this printer also have an IPDS card? That's a common configuration, and a typical default emulation.

From working with IBM Network printers, go through the printer configuration menu, find IPDS menu, then emulation to choose the IPDS printer to emulate.
