What choice does an independant developer (especially those
leasing time on a box) have in this case?  

I like SEU.. no problems with it at all.. for small changes
I use a textpad.. but I'm not about to spend tons of cash
just to make IBM happy and richer.

That's one of the reasons I wrote a PDM (not SEU)
replacement application as well...  They're getting rid of
it, I'm providing a replacement.  :)  For production only
machines, it's a great tool.  Pretty good seller as well.

But, the main question is, unless one of these editors is
free (or even $100 or so), I'm sticking with SEU.  It works
great for me, and I am very productive with it.  And I
don't want to install some thick client just for writing
applications...  Not everyone has 100 gig of memory for
IBM's PC based applications.  LOL!

Oh, try making the VI wisecrack comparison to punchcards on
a *nix group...  but be prepared to be burnt.  :)
