Dell doesn't make any of its own printers. The A920/A960 inkjets are from Lexmark. But they made a little change in the cartridge, so that Lexmark cartridges don't work, only those sold by Dell. Don't know is this is also true of the lasers. It's a little ugly when someone forces you to use ONLY their consumables. Fortunately, Dells prices on the inkjet carts is very level with places like Staples, etc. Dell is less a manufacturer than a distributor these days, even of PCs. Everything is made in China.

Kirk,

Yup, kid tested and dad approved! Even though the printer says Dell on the
front, I wonder if it is based on a Lexmark print engine???? <VBG>

Thanks for the quick response.

Subject: Re: Help! Best Host Print Transform for Dell W5300 Printer

Looks like it's an Lexmark.... Use *LEXOPTRA

Now how did I find that...

Go to WWW-912.ibm.com (yes that's a dash before the 912)
In the top right search box type "support ascii printers xxx" xxx being
Dell or HP or ??

You will get a bunch of hits, goto the "Software Knowledge Base" tab
and look for
"Support for ASCII Printers from xxx"

Use the tables you find there
