I've wondered whether there is a pretty-print for SQL anywhere, because these things get really ugly fast.

Now, I see a couple possibilities for keeping "source" - a *QMQRY and a member that RUNSQLSTM uses. You could look at STRQM, option 1. This does not obviously use a source member, but the syntax is saved somewhere.

Or use a QMQRY source member in QQMQRYSRC (record length 91 of all things). I've used this in the past, with a CQ PDM option for the CRTQMQRY command based on the member, and an RQ option for STRQMQRY, filling it in with the member name. There IS also a WRKQMQRY command that has create options (11, IIRC).

Finally, Navigator can generate the SQL from an existing view. I don't recall how pretty it is.

Yeah, but it's ugly as heck. Loses all the pretty-fied formatting and
changes everything to uppercase. I like the idea that it is saved in the
view object like that but, man, I'd hate to have to re-pretty-fy it
everytime I wanted to look at the definition.

Sorry for hacking the English language. Is there a better hack than
pretty-fy? <g>
