Mark,

Yep, with KVMs you connect the keyboard mouse and video to the KVM and then use special cables (preferably siamesed type) from the KVM to each server. You are correct that the xSeries (including the HMC) will work with standard PS/2 keyboards and meeses (done that.)

I have never used the NetBay LCM switch but have had good luck with StarTech and Belkin switches. It does sound like you are correct on what you need with it though.

ps: I'm not touching the over/under on the screws. Around here we go see Gemmen's Hardware. He's got everything!!

All of our servers, including the HMC have standard PS/2 ports. According to that URL, that is supported, you do not need USB. I am a bit unclear on the cables needed though. We have the HMC and 3 xSeries servers to connect. Can all of these be connected with just one cable? Or I guess reading it closer, it is saying part # 4268 includes 4 cables for up to 4 servers. That sounds like what we need.

NetBAY LCM Switch (#4202):

* A minimum of one LCM cable (#4268) or USB cable (#4269) is required with a NetBAY LCM Switch (#4202).
o The LCM cable (#4268) is used with systems with separate keyboard, display, and mouse.
o The USB cable (#4269) is used with systems with USB keyboard or mouse ports. * Each LCM cable (#4268) or USB cable (#4269) contains four cables used to connect up to four servers to the rear of the switch.
* A maximum of 16 LCM cables (#4268) or USB cables (#4269) may be used with the NetBAY LCM Switch (#4202) to connect up to 64 servers.
* Each port in the switch can connect a maximum of 16 systems.
o One LCM cable (#4268) or USB cable (#4269) is required for every four systems supported on the switch. * Cable feature numbers 4243, 4244, and 4245 are available to support connection to the VGA switch (#4200).

I think that is what IBM is telling us too, but they do not answer the question the same way we ask it, so it gets confusing.

Thanks

Mark

PS - The "travel keyboard" is technically separate, but it is included as a chargeable item in the "package". It is just the old IBM part number run around. We got a rack mounted LTO drive too, and it didn't come with the right screws to connect to the IBM rack that came with it. Who wants to set the over/under on how many phone calls it will take to get the screws?
