Mark,

That's the right HMC no problem.

The 7316-TF3 will connect to a KVM if you'd like The keyboards they ship with it though (i.e. FC 8800 US English) are USB so you'd want to be sure your xSeries AND your KVM support USB keyboard and mouse.

You should have no trouble putting xSeries into the rack as they are largely the same between x, p, and i.

The PDU in the rack should also work with xSeries machines though if you get redundant power on the x boxes and only have one PDU you'll rapidly run out of plugs. Each PDU only supports about 6 connections so 'do the math'.

Yep, the HMC is an xSeries no doubt. It just has a specific code load on it that makes it an HMC.

If you want to see everything you might want to know about the 7316-TC3 here:

Just to clarify, our HMC is part number 7310-CR2. I googled it and got this:

http://www-306.ibm.com/common/ssi/fcgi-bin/ssialias?subtype=ca&infotype=an&appname=iSource&supplier=897&letternum=ENUS104-166

It basically says here that we need either 7316-TF3 or an external KVM solution.

I guess that answers my questions, except does this 7316-TF3 really not come with the keyboard and mouse too? What are those part numbers?

Mark

PS - This HMC is just an xSeries 335 (even says so on it).

The HMC itself is all self contained. It comes with a flat panel

display,

mouse and a weird keyboard. That's great, I have to master another
keyboard. You must set up the HMC first and then set up the system. The
instructions omit this fact. So the sequence is put everything

together,

apply power to the display, power up the HMC. Then, and only then do

you

apply power to the i5!

You can also set up so that you can drive it remotely through a browser,
but you must set up your security properly for this.
