Danged if I can find it now, but I did read on an IBM website that the
next version of OS/400 will have AIX available as a partition. Don't
recall anything about mainframe.

Ken,

The rumor I have heard involves the introduction of Hardware Management
Console (HMC) to the iSeries with P5. AIX folks have had it for about a
year and the mainframe folks have had a similar concept since S/390. What
this buys for the iSeries is the ability to create LPARs without a primary
partition as we know it today. The HMC is Linux based.

That's the rumor mill from what I have heard.

Regards,

Mike Shaw

Hello gang...

I've heard some rumors, that with the next generation of
computers
running this highly touted P5 (Power 5) chip, they will also have a
machine

(correct me here if I'm wrong), that you can partition
and run
virtually
any OS, including mainframe.

My question is, what's the scuttlebutt?, and how close to
the truth
is
this?
