Thanks for info, Jeff! That "fine line" between "unprofessional and
immoral" vs. "anti-trust / illegal" has recently come up on MI list, also.
Still thinkin' about that... Tough nut to crack, it appears.

|
| my pennyworth ... perhaps an analogy ...
|
| The HAL Motor Corporation sell their cars via a dealership network;
| The salesmen at the dealerships do their business and sell cars to Joe
| Public, get their margin, make a profit and a living.
| The dealer-salesman encounters a potentially lucrative little
| deal selling a
| couple of dozen HAL TurboVVTIs to a business in his patch who are
| replacing
| their company car fleet.
| HAL get wind of the deal through the normal dealership
| relationship, and see
| the potential for cutting out the middleman and getting a bigger slice of
| the cake, not only that, but also try to get the fleet manager to buy into
| their car maintenance scheme, auto club membership ...
| This is the kind of behaviour that can really wind up a
| dealership, in more
| ways than one.
|
| Have I personally experienced this? No, I can't say that I have, though I
| have heard stories. Is it anti-trust / illegal? Ask a lawyer, but IMHO it
| is unprofessional and immoral.
|
| This I'm sure we have all experienced ... HAL running a 'sale' of
| it's cars
| at less than the minimum price it has agreed with the dealership network.
|
| Kind regards,

| | And before somebody from IBM tells me it's my job to "improve the
| | image" by
| | educating customers, I want to know why tier 1 business partners
| | show up in
| | my big accounts with a bogus value-add as soon as the IBM
| branch gets wind
| | of the deal. And I want to know why tier 1 accounts can sell into my
| | accounts but I can't sell into theirs.
| |
| | Doesn't anybody in IBM know how to spell "anti-trust" these days?
|
| I'm not that familiar with Taft-Hartley, other than know it
| exists. I also
| don't know about IBM's tier system of ISVs. I understand the problem, but
| how is it related to anti-trust?? Or is it in quotes because this practice
| causes such Negative-Trust amongst the ISVs?? (And read, last night, Mr.
| Zollar like other iSeries Heads is Counting on ISVs and BPs to do MOST of
| the hard work of GETTING iSeries some visibility.)
|
| Also, Reeve, do you know if this is a widespread problem or just something
| you "happen" to run into (occasionally?)??
