I've seen third-party RPG tests in the past, used at two different companies. One was a static document, so it was possible for someone to have seen it already if an employee or previous applicant smuggled it out or took notes. The other was a licensed service that generated a new test each time online based on a larger database of questions. I had recommended that we modify the static document because 30% of the questions were about string manipulation. I was hired at my first job based on a logic test. One company I've worked with uses a more sophisticated logic test. The theory is that even if you test well on the nuts and bolts of the language you can still write crappy code. -Jim -----Original Message----- From: Joubert, Robert [mailto:RJoubert@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Monday, January 05, 2004 10:48 AM To: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Subject: RE: Midrange Knowledge test A few years ago (and a few companies ago), someone come in with what they claimed was three years experience. It turned out that they had just graduated from "night collage" and the "college" owner and his wife posed as this person's references from previous companies. This person couldn't manage to do a change to a report program which was using an external print file. That's why I like the idea of a tech test - if management like the person and said person is a "Klutz", I like some sort of backup to say why that person shouldn't be hired..... -----Original Message----- From: rob@xxxxxxxxx [mailto:rob@xxxxxxxxx] We had a guy who interviewed well, and I was never privy to the "head" test results of him or the iq test results. However he couldn't write a program more tricky that what Query/400 could do.
