I just grabbed 32k out of thin air. :)

Here's how I look at it:

To code the DDS with the true number means that every time the size gets
changed by adding or resizing a field you MUST change the DDS.  This
could be done manually or programagically.

To have any size (largest current size to the next even k?)as a hidden
field with the MOVEL or EVAL means a simple recompile for the affected
programs.
