How are the printers going to be attached to the PC's? With a parallel 
cable, USB cable, or part of a mini-network? I've got my home PC set up on 
a mini-network, and my printers are attached to Jet Direct boxes. I attach 
to all but one of my clients via the internet and various flavors of VPN. 
The only thing I had to do was to arrange to allocate a couple of fixed IP 
addresses for the equipment behind my router. I then create the remote 
outq, using the IP address for my laser printer.

You know how people can get sometimes. They'll put in a slightly incorrect 
parameter, print the report and then toss it. Then they'll put in the 
correct parameters, read the report, and then toss it the next day. Sounds 
like you're going to be using a lot of bandwidth.

Is it safe to assume that these folks have email addresses? I would opt to 
have the reports converted into PDF and emailed to the users. Once they 
are happy with the output, they can print them at their leisure, using an 
interface with which they are familiar. They also won't call you about 
forms alignment, empty paper tray, etc. messages that will appear on the 
400. Additionally, if these folks are road warriors, they'll be able to 
carry the reports with them on their laptops rather than in breifcases.

Mission: to have multiple remote users from each of their homes...working 
on 
their own pC's...take a menu option that prints a report...to their home 
printer.

Access to our 400 is currently through the internet with standard java - 
tcp/ip entrance.

There IS a virtual printer function within the software but it assigns an 
outq name dynamically and none of these users are going to be able to 
execute change job commands...nor do we want them to have to. There is no 
way, I believe, to extract the name of the virtual device/outq that each 
job 
creates so that wouldn't work. In addition, the least amount of windows 
that 
open up remotely on each PC, the less questions and phone calls will be 
made 
to our customer service ot IT departments.

Best scenario would be to establish a "remote" outq of some 
sort...hopefully 
attached to the printer file of the report that is printed...and when 
spooled, would automatically print on each persons home printer...is any 
of 
this feasable?
