It also occurred to me that this is harking back to a "timesharing" mentality of mainframe usage in the 60s and 70s. No doubt this is one of the purposes of IBM's grid computing initiative. Just as everyone doesn't have their own electrical power plants, everyone won't need their own systems... Maybe?
