Because I pass the username and password in the ASP connection string, I don't think it's necessary in this case. Also, I only left installed the minimum required components for AS/400 connectivity: CA required programs, OLE/ODBC drivers, and the CAE toolkit. (Less may be required, but I was comfortable with leaving these.) CWBCFG no longer exists on the server. Rule #1 - always check client service pack levels! Installing V4R5 CA service pack SF67276 fixed the problem. It updated the ODBC driver from 7.00.00.00 to 7.00.05.00, among other things.
