The documentation suggested is a good start. However there are some different concepts you should be aware of. For example, a common practice on the S/36 was to DLTFILE and BLDFILE to clear out all records. That got to be a pain when you started adding index files against your files. Even if you don't have index files doing this combination on the iSeries is expensive. Instead, evaluate the CLRPFM command.
