Actually there was some discussion as to the mathematics of this quite 
some time ago.

SNA wise I can think of a reason to limit user profiles to 8 characters. 
Makes WRKDIRE match up better.  Doesn't mean a lot as far as passwords.

Maybe because 128 characters would really clutter up the signon screen?

Interesting.  I'm doing my periodic password scheme implementation, and 
for
the first time some of my passwords are over 8 characters long.  I find 
that
QPWDMAXLEN defaults to 8.  Does anybody know why this is a default before 
I
"fix" it?
