Priorities: 1) Check your electrical supply. Have your electricians verify that you have the proper plug(s) for each of the rack(s) involved. Verify that your UPS and/or generator will handle this new load. 2) Make sure that you have enough air conditioning in the room to handle the btu's generated. In our raised floor room running 4 racks of W2K servers and various comm equipment plus three 270's, a 840 and a 820, and the UPS we have two large overhead units. If the larger unit fails the smaller unit won't keep up and we have to prop the doors open. 3) Make sure your ethernet switch will handle the speed of the new box. GB, 10 or 100? 4) Check for other comm lines on the box and see that you have enough to handle it. ECS, EDI or any other such comm. 5) Do you have storage area for the tapes? Will your offsite carrying case handle the new amount of tapes? How's about just upgrading both boxes and combining them into one newer processor? Take down the wallpaper, we're moving! (Well, one AS400 is, anyway.) We recently acquired a new division, and as part of "merging" the two organizations we've inherited a fully loaded 730. The machine resides in a third location and will be moved to our new division's facilities soon. Is there anything that can be pre-configured on the 730 "in advance" of the move that will simplify what needs to happen when the box arrives at its new location? The new IP address for the 730 at its new location is already determined. We will be administering this system remotely. I will be very appreciative of any "words of wisdom" regarding pre-configuring connectivity, and relocating equipment in general. We would also like to thank the List for helping us in a big way on several past occasions.
