RE: Switch or hub - and addendum

Somewhat along this same line, a network sniffer detected the DEC LAT
protocol on the network & the technician said it was from the 400.  Yes or
no & what is it for?  There was not a lot detected but it was there.

IIRC he said the DEC LAT protocol was "chatty" & I don't need any
miscellaneous traffic on the network.

Several years ago when a new building was built & a new network was
installed, we plugged the 400's into a switch.  After much trial &
tribulation, we were told to plug the 400's into a hub.

We are about to upgrade all our switches, routers, & hubs to accommodate a
new phone system & AT&T dedicated T1's to our two remote mining facilities.

The question is:  Do I still plug the 400's into a hub or a switch and/or is
there a setting that could be changed to allow use to use a switch?

In case it makes any difference we currently have 3Com 3000 switches & 3Com
dual speed 500 hubs with the router being built into the phone system, which
is ten years old.  This ancient but still functioning equipment has caused
other problems & it will be nice to see it out of here.  QoS was something
we are not able to currently do but that will change with the new equipment.

The equipment we will replace it with will be Cisco 2620 routers, Cisco 3550
and 2950 switches, & no hubs - which is why I'm asking the question in case
we still need to have a hub for the 400's.
