Back seven or so years ago, the COMMON conferences were booked into 'conference cities' some ten years in advance, IIRC. Renegotiation was unlikely to any significant degree, probably because competition for conference sites was intense and sites were limited -- only a dozen or so cities were able to provide needed facilities. In today's market? Perhaps renegotiation is possible. But I'd be surprised if it could be done for the next few conferences. They're booked and COMMON could hardly threaten to go elsewhere. "Elsewhere" is already booked too. Further, consider a renegotiation that provided an additional 15% drop in room rates. That's a significant drop on the hotels' side, but really only going from $239 to $200+ on the attendee side. Doesn't seem to be enough. Maybe it is.
