I am certainly in favor of object level security. We have a user requirement to be able to build their own queries. This customer is transitioning towards object security, but at the same time needs a good query tool, with features way beyond OS400 Query. They saw the query internal security as a way to avoid IS constantly having to build and maintain a multitude of access paths. We need to replace the OS400 Query long before the object security is done. jim ----- Original Message ----- From: <rob@xxxxxxxxx> To: "Midrange Systems Technical Discussion" <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, April 04, 2003 1:03 PM Subject: Re: Search for Data Query Analysis tools > I am curious about a package with field level security versus using either > the field level security available in a physical file with V5, or with the > more traditional method of securing people out of the physical and only > allowing access via the various views you've created. > > Does one have to redefine all data to the tool? > > Or does one set up all of the inquiries and just tell the user to run > those queries?
