I like iSeries Navigator as much as the next guy but I don't think of it 
as a user based query tool. Sure they could run SQL scripts, or use the 
database view, but the former is too scary for end users and the latter is 
too simplistic.

I am certainly in favor of object level security. We have a user
requirement
to be able to build their own queries. This customer is transitioning
towards
object security, but at the same time needs a good query tool, with 
features
way beyond
OS400 Query. They saw the query internal security as a way to avoid IS
constantly having
to build and maintain a multitude of access paths. We need to replace the
OS400 Query long before the object security is done.
