Justin, I don't even apply ptf's perm anymore. Ran into TOO many
problems. You see, many program products are not at the same level as the
OS anymore. And some products even compete. Let's talk about the Domino,
Quickplace, Sametime triumvirate. To upgrade one often requires that you
remove and reapply all ptf's on one of the others. Well, if you've
applied the ptf's permanently then your only choice is to reinstall, and I
get enough of that crud with Wintel.

Granted, one could APYPTF and instead of product *ALL one could do it
program product at a time. And I used to do so, but just don't take the
time any longer.

If time is an issue, I'd skip it. Of course, if you're planning on your
upgrade to fail it would be nice to have a copy of your previous system
already PTF-ed up, ready to go.

Your call, but I'm an optimist when it comes to OS upgrades - gotta be.
Apply what PTFs are on the box *PERM, IPL it, back it up, throw in the OS
CD
and let 'er rip.

If there are prereq's, you'll obviously need to get them on tho - a whole
cume can take hours (spin time, apply time, IPL time) - might not be worth
it if you've got a finite amount of time.
