If time is an issue, I'd skip it.  Of course, if you're planning on your
upgrade to fail it would be nice to have a copy of your previous system
already PTF-ed up, ready to go.

Your call, but I'm an optimist when it comes to OS upgrades - gotta be.
Apply what PTFs are on the box *PERM, IPL it, back it up, throw in the OS CD
and let 'er rip.

If there are prereq's, you'll obviously need to get them on tho - a whole
cume can take hours (spin time, apply time, IPL time) - might not be worth
it if you've got a finite amount of time.
